Just outside the resort are two typical Spanish restaurants that also sell fresh products. The resort has 24-hour security and a manned entrance. Altaona is located at the foot of the UNESCO mountain area “El Valle”, with direct access to the mountains, ideal for hiking and cycling enthusiasts.

The location is also convenient for other amenities, such as:

Location & Philosophy

Altaona is located between the beaches of the Mar Menor and the city of Murcia. The resort opened in 1999 under the name Mosa Trajectum, where famous Dutch football player Johan Cruijff was present as the resort’s ambassador. The resort was firmly established in 2004 as the host of the PGA EuroPro Tour Championship Final.

The resort currently has approximately 500 homes on a total area of 3.6 million m2. The low building density of 9% is unique in Spain and, along with its many facilities (including spacious roads, a shopping centre and tennis courts), is consistently cited by residents and visitors as one of the area’s most attractive features. TAOLIS is working on this project together with the Dutch investment fund Hannibal Europe (website Dutch only). For the maximum of 100 villas that will be built within this project on Altaona, a plot of 47,000 m2 has been purchased on which the villas will be developed.

The plot has a very good and quiet location at the top of the resort and therefore also offers beautiful views. In addition, it is located directly next to the UNESCO nature reserve “El Valle”. A video of this area you can view here.

The project will be very distinctive from the other housing projects currently under construction on the resort, built and offered by Spanish developers in a “traditional way”. These developers lack the Northern European mentality and vision on innovation.

This manifests itself in a slow, inefficient and non-energy-conscious way of building. As a result, the houses do not match the wishes of the customer well. Moreover, the price-quality ratio of these houses is substantially less favourable than that of the TAOLIS villa project.

In addition, the designs will be characterized by the extensive use of “noble materials” such as wood, natural stone, stucco, concrete and glass, which are strategically combined with plenty of natural light. The style is mainly low-rise (bungalow type) and modern, but not too cold and distant.

Other criteria that TAOLIS uses in the selection of the architect(s) are extensive experience, focus on innovation, a high degree of creativity and the use of the latest software and technologies. In addition, we expect the architect(s) to offer some degree of flexibility to our customers regarding the design.

The Art of Living In Spain has done extensive research into all possible contemporary building methods that could be suitable for the villa project in Altaona. We investigated domestic (Spanish) suppliers as well as parties and construction methods from other countries (including the Netherlands), including modular building systems.

One of the construction methods that TAOLIS is considering to use for the Altaona villa project is Sismo Building Technologies. Sismo has over 30 years of experience and is present in 88 countries around the world. In 2012, the system arrived in Spain, where the Sismo modules are produced in Malaga and distributed across Spain and several African countries.

The basic structure of the Sismo building system is a three-dimensional module. This module is made of a galvanized steel wire grid. Infill panels have been placed on the outside. These panels transform the grid into a closed structure, which is filled with concrete. The steel wires also act as an anchor for the finishing material.
